Having a quality roof underlayment is essential for the longevity of your roof. Our roofs are exposed to harsh weather conditions, from heavy rain, strong winds during hurricane season to extreme heat. Without protecting your roof from these exposures, you run the risk of spending more than necessary on roofing repairs and possible replacements. There are a few common roofing underlayment options in the industry.

Different Types Of Roof Underlayment

There are three main types of underlayment systems that are popular amongst roofers. There is, however, a new product on the market that gives these familiar techniques a bit of competition.

  • Asphalt-Saturated Organic Felt Paper

This type of underlayment is made from various combinations of various paper-based sheets, bitumen, asphalt and cellulose. It is often referred to as tar paper or felt paper as the backing material used is similar to tar paper that is saturated with asphalt from tar. This is the ingredient that aids waterproofing. asphalt-saturated felt stiffens the roof deck which improves the strength against heavy trees and branches falling or airborne debris caused by hurricane winds.

  • Synthetic Underlayment

Synthetic underlayment is made with asphalt-saturated base-mat and a mix of fiberglass. This combination makes the underlayment strong, water-resistant and tear resistant. Roofers trust this method for their non-slip qualities. Although synthetic underlayment systems are incredibly strong, they do not meet all building code requirements. These types of underlayment do not always allow for material warranties to be recognized, which is an essential part of a roofing investment.

  • Rubberized Roofing Underlayment

Rubberized asphalt is a 100% waterproof seal system. It is made of asphalt and rubber polymers. The polyethylene or polyester content that bonds to the upper surface provides a non-skid quality and is also highly resistant to weather elements, which is great during hurricane season in South Florida. In some cases, the underlayment may be reinforced with fiberglass.

Superior Roofing Underlayment Options

Considering the variety of options on the market, Tag & Stick have come up with a solution that meets all the requirements of the highest quality roofing underlayment solution. The technology behind this product uses mechanical attachment and self-adhering features. The two-ply underlayment is easily installed with most steep slope roofing including tiles, shingles, shakes, metal and slate. It is much easier to install than other underlayment systems which is beneficial for both the client as well as roofers. No priming is required, and even so, when removing the underlayment, the sheathing will not be damaged.

Tag & Stick works with batten and existing flashings. No back nailing of the cap sheet is required. Compared to other popular underlayment systems, Tag & Stick meets all South Florida Building Code requirements which is a major advantage.

If you’re considering an alternative to common roofing underlayment, Tag & Stick will cover your roof and all your requirements. Whether you require a re-roofing, roof repairs or a new roof, you can be rest assured that this improved and superior adhesive underlayment system will give you the peace-of-mind that your roofing requires.
